It makes up only 2 percent of a human cell’s total DNA. But because of its seemingly endless repeating bases, the Y chromosome is one of the most difficult to genetically sequence. Scientists initially believed it was nothing more than a genetic wasteland, only good for making sperm. Yet, in reality, that’s not the case at all. As genetic technology grows more advanced, so has our understanding of the Y chromosome’s importance. Its loss in older men, for example, is associated with an increased risk of cancer and other chronic diseases. Its genes somehow play a part in multiple biological processes. But, for decades, more than half of the Y chromosome remained unsequenced, and its role in human health remained a mystery. Meta has released a tool called Code Llama, built on top of its Llama 2 large language model, to generate new code and debug human-written work, the company said.  Code Llama will use the same community license as Llama 2 and is free for research and commercial use. Continued here TikTok is steamrolling past Instagram in user attention time, but is still far behind on ad dollars     US adults are spending a lot more time scrolling on TikTok than Instagram this year, per a new report released this week by Insider Intelligence, our company's research arm. US TikTok users 18 and up are projected to spend a total of 4.43 billion minutes a day on the app in 2023, compared with 3.91 billion daily minutes on Instagram. TikTok's attention-time edge is notable, as the app has far fewer users than Instagram overall. Insider Intelligence estimated that TikTok will have 82.3 million monthly adult users in the US this year, compared to 118.4 million on Instagram. TikTok said in March that, overall, it had 150 million monthly active users in the US across all age groups. Instagram-owner Meta Platforms tallied over 2 billion monthly users worldwide for Instagram in October, but did not break out its US audience. Continued here
