What Mentors Wish Their Mentees Knew The mentor-mentee relationship is a tango between a junior person and a more senior one; just as in dance, coordination and orchestration between parties is necessary for grace and success. This gap is unfortunate because, like mentorship, menteeship requires specific behaviors, without which the mentee’s success may be threatened. Work | | WorkWorkWhy Skills Training Cant Replace Higher Education One of the dominant narratives in the media is that we need to produce more workers now who can do whatever is needed now, using short-term post-secondary certification programs. The focus is typically on vocational skills, contrasted with what too often are characterized as relatively useless liberal education outcomes. Of course, short-term vocational skills-based programs are critically important and well suited for many people. But this is not an acceptable policy choice for addressing the demands of the 21st century workplace and fixing the shortcomings of American higher education. Abbreviating post-secondary preparation programs may well reduce short-term costs for students, institutions, and many employers. However, privileging short-term job training over demanding educational experiences associated with high-levels of intellectual, personal, and social development a foundation for continuous life-long learning is a bad idea for individuals, for the long-term vitality of the American economy, and for our democracy.

The committee, among other points, claimed Gingrich had been involved in efforts to put forward fake electors during the election certification. And while the January 6 committee draws connections between Gingrich and election denialism, Republican leader Kevin McCarthy is attempting to emulate the former Speaker, launching the \"Commitment to America,\" a sort of Contract-with-America redux, in his effort to secure a Republican majority in the midterm elections. | | WorkWorkEmotions Arent the Enemy of Good Decision-Making Too often, when we need to make a difficult decision, we rush through it to avoid sitting with uncomfortable emotions. But channelling those emotions a process the author calls emotional bookending can help us ensure that weve correctly identified the decision we have to make and set us up to move forward with clarity and confidence. The process is as simple as taking the time to identify 1) the emotions you feel as you face your decision, and 2) the emotions you want to feel as youre looking at your decision in the rearview mirror. What do you see? How is your life better for a satisfying decision outcome? | | WorkHow to Be a Productive Night Owl We are all different and our minds and bodies function differently.
