The town with the cleanest air in the world The air around me crackles with diamond-like dust with every breath. It is cold, but clear on this mountainside, in the midst of what is essentially an Arctic desert. The extremely dry, freezing air almost instantly turns the fog of moisture from my mouth and nose into tiny, sparkling crystals of ice.

Work | | Work Startups, if your CEO isn't running your fundraising, you're doing it wrong – TechCrunchThe other issue is that typically, it’s only the (co-)founders who have significant equity in a company. That’s good for them, and it represents a lock-in of sorts. A (co-)founder leaving a company is a big deal. If you’re sending your sales flunky out to “sell” the company, your investor will know two things: One, they probably don’t have a meaningful ownership stake in the company, and that building an ongoing relationship with this person will probably be futile; they could leave, or they could be (accidentally) misrepresenting the company in certain important aspects. Two, if the salesperson does have a huge ownership stake, it is a different red flag — that the founders don’t know how to manage their cap table. Work

Work TikTok parent ByteDance acquires private hospital chainAmazon announced in July that it is acquiring One Medical for roughly $3.9 billion. Apple continues to expand in the space. Its Health app can store medical records if a patient visits a healthcare provider that supports the system, for example, and CEO Tim Cook once remarked the company\'s \"greatest contribution to mankind\" will be \"about health.\" Work Global heating has caused âshockingâ changes in forests across the Americas, studies findThe impact of the climate crisis is also being felt in the heart of the Amazon, a further study has underlined. Scientists have raised concerns that the huge rainforest ecosystem is in danger of tipping into a new, altered state, eventually becoming a savannah, and the new research found that a lack of phosphorus in the Amazon's soils could have "major implications" for its resilience to global heating. Work Nick Kyrgios continues blistering form with win over world No 1 Daniil Medvedev“Look, I feel confident in my body and my mentality going in to the US Open but at the same time there’s so much time between then and now,” Kyrgios said. “I’ve got to focus on this event and then Cincinnati. There’s so many things I’ve got to look forward to. I’m not even going to think about the US Open right now. I need to take care of my body.” Work Work Work Islamic State: Aine Davis arrested in UK on terrorism chargesKotey was given a life sentence for each of the eight counts to which he pleaded guilty last year when admitting responsibility for the deaths of four American hostages in Syria, as well as the kidnapping and torture of numerous journalists and relief workers. Work Work Spotify Tickets lets concertgoers buy passes for live gigs – TechCrunchAgain, we had a number of stories from yesterday that seem to still be on readers’ minds, so let’s dig in to a few: Elon Musk was having an “okay” good day. SpaceX’s Starship hit a milestone, Aria writes, but Rebecca reports Musk sold nearly $7 billion in Tesla shares, perhaps because that $44 billion check to Twitter is going to bite. Meanwhile, there were layoffs for Microsoft, iRobot and Hootsuite. And Coinbase’s earnings were as expected, Jacquelyn, Alex, and Anita write. Work Finix raises $30 million as fintech's spotlight picks its sides – TechCrunchIn a press release announcing its new cash, the company says that Q2 2022 was its best quarter ever in terms of new deals closed. It is welcome news in a quarter that saw mixed messages for fintech. So, clearly, Finix’s strategy shift has made a difference enough to get a cadre of investors to put money into the venture-backed company. Work What does the future look like for e-commerce aggregators? – TechCrunchAdditionally, many aggregators worked on a hyperaccelerated timetable. They had a finite (and shrinking) number of brands to buy in a short amount of time if they wanted to bundle them up and flip them as a package. So, they kept buying brands without going through the usual due diligence, which inevitably led to buying brands with mediocre products, inflated sales and fake reviews. Work Nanopath is looking to drastically change medical diagnostics – TechCrunch“[Patients, now] have to wait a few days for the local lab to get the answer, and then the doctor has to track down the patient and maybe change their treatment,” Tadimety sadid. “And so this is critically important when we think about the number of patients that are lost to follow up, or that are hard to reach or that are being given the wrong treatment, because we just don’t have a tool that can identify what they need during that visit.” Work Work Dear Sophie: Which immigration options are best for a decentralized team in the US? – TechCrunchDifferent startups choose to go different ways with whether to have these policies at all and if so, what they should include. I always recommend being strategic and deliberate about offering immigration as a benefit to recruit and retain international talent whether they are in the United States or abroad. Offering green card sponsorship after a year or two is a tremendous benefit! This also helps shape your company culture, demonstrating that you value diversity, inclusion and the well-being of your team. Work Work Stark makes it easier to design accessible websites, software – TechCrunch“Here at Stark a majority of the team is disabled. I’m a female founder, but I’m also a disabled CEO, and a majority of the people on the team have some form of at least one disability, and we’re all very open about it. It’s something that we don’t shy away from. We lean into it,” she said. And it helps them build a better product. Work Work Novel Farms flexes its pork loin 'muscle' – TechCrunch“We just have a very good, efficient scaffold, and the cells attach very well,” Martinez Marshall said. “That’s something that nobody else has. Once we confirm and scale with a bioreactor, then we will be the most affordable of all the companies.” Work Cloud security startup Wiz reaches $100M ARR in 18 months – TechCrunchAs Rappaport said, the $100 million ARR number is just a blip in the scheme of things. The company still has to continue to execute and continue to serve customers, but for a company barely two years old, with hundreds of customers — they won’t share an exact number — they are certainly off to as good a start as any startup and its investors could hope for. Work Smart mug maker Ember just spun out a life sciences company – TechCrunchThe new entity has a pair of new shipping containers in the pipeline that build on the initial Cube technology: “an ultra-low temperature shipper and a cryogenic shipper. Both are intended to be used to transport cell and gene therapy products and will also include the same cloud-based temperature reporting, GPS location tracking and return-to-sender technology featured in the Ember Cube.” Work Nightfall nabs cash for AI that detects sensitive data across apps – TechCrunchWhen reached for comment via email, Bain Capital Ventures partner and Nightfall board member Enrique Salem said: “Data security is quickly becoming the most critical and vulnerable layer of an organization’s security stack. Nightfall is the emerging leader in cloud DLP, protecting organizations from costly data leaks and enabling strong data security hygiene without blocking business users.” |
